**** DIRECTORY FUNCTION ***
Shows you a list of the directories (on the left) and files
(on the right) your hard disk contains. In some functions,
you can use the list to choose which ones you want to work
with.
You can move around in the list like this:
--Use the arrow keys (up,down, left, right) to move item
by item.
--Use <PgUp> and <PgDn> to move up or down a full page.
--Use <Home> to move to the first item on the list.
--Use <End> to move to the last item on the list.
--Use <Tab> (also called <Indent>) to move between the
directory list and the file list.
Press <Ins> to choose a highlighted filename or directory to
work with (where the program permits).

*** HARD DISK ***
Allows you to choose which of several hard disks you wish to
use for backup or restore.
After selecting Hard Disk, enter the name of the disk drive
(for example, D).
DEFAULT: C (normally the first hard disk).
*H_se_in
*** CHOOSE FILES ***
If you do not wish to backup or restore everything on your
hard disk, you may select only those directories or files you
want.
Select Choose Files and press <F3>; FASTBACK PLUS will show
you a list of the directories (on the left) and files (on the
right) on your hard disk. You can use the list to choose
which ones you want to work with.
Move around in the list as follows:
--Use the arrow keys (up,down, left, right) to move item
by item.
--Use <PgUp> and <PgDn> to move up or down a full page.
--Use <Home> to move to the first item on the list.
--Use <End> to move to the last item on the list.
--Use <Tab> (also called <Indent> to move between the
directory list and the file list.
The Point-and-Push method:
To choose a highlighted filename or directory to work
with, press <Ins>. The program will mark the names of
your choices with a triangle and post them to the file
selection lines in the lower window.
After choosing files, press <Esc> to return to the file
selection lines, where you may edit the inserted entries.
You can also type your choices directly into the file
selection lines. This, however, requires knowledge of
standard DOS file specification methods. New users may
prefer to use the easy "point and push" method described here
to select files.
DEFAULT: The default selection is "C:\____*.*____Y", which
includes everything on C: drive.

*** BACKUP DESTINATION ***
Making a backup requires copying data from your hard disk to
some other location. This option allows you to choose that
other location, the destination. Normally, you will use Drive
A: or Drive B:, or both if they are the same type.
FASTBACK PLUS uses information you provided during
installation to present you a list of destinations to which
you can back up. Highlight the selection you want. Then
press <Enter>.
Default: FASTBACK PLUS defaults to your A: drive (or to
both A: and B: if they are of the same type).
*H_ba_bt
*** BACKUP TYPE ***
Use the arrow keys to choose which of the three kinds of
Backup you wish to make.
Full Backup:
Includes all files the selected hard disk (unless you
use Choose Files to select particular ones).
Incremental Backup:
Includes all files changed since the last partial backup
and treats them as part of the last full backup. To
restore your hard disk, you would restore the last full
backup, which would prompt you to use all the subsequent
incremental backups as well.
Differential Backup:
Includes all files changed since the last full backup.
Does not mark files as backed up after completing the
backup. To restore your hard disk, you would restore
the last full backup followed by the last differential
backup.
Brief guidelines for choosing backup type:
--Use full backup once a week.
--Use incremental backup daily if you typically use many
different files from one day to the next.
--Use differential backup daily if you typically use the
same small group of files daily.

*** PREVIEW BACKUP ***
Lists all the files and directories on your hard disk with a
triangle before filenames you have selected for back up.
A triangle before a directory- or subdirectory-name indicates
that you have selected at least one file under that heading
for backup.
To preview your backup in detail, you can move around in the
list as follows:
--Use the arrow keys (up,down, left, right) to move item
by item.
--Use <PgUp> and <PgDn> to move up or down a full page.
--Use <Home> to move to the first item on the list.
--Use <End> to move to the last item on the list.
--Use <Tab> (also called <Indent> to move between the
directory list and the file list.

*** START BACKUP ***
Select Start Backup from the main menu to call up the Backup
Progress screen.
The Backup Progress menu offers three choices:
Estimate Start Backup Quit
Estimate tells you
--approximately how many diskettes your backup will
require
--approximately how much time it will take.
Start Backup begins the backup.
Quit returns you to the main menu.
Notes about using the Backup Progress screen:
--Change diskettes when the prompt at the bottom of the
screen tells you to.
--While FASTBACK PLUS works, the red light on your
floppy disk drive does not go out. You can safely
change diskettes whenever the program says to, even if
the red light is on.
--Watch the screen for statistics related to the
progress of your backup.
--As long as the diamond-shaped Buffers marks change,
your backup is going correctly.
--Press <Esc> to interrupt the backup.

*** RESTORE SOURCE ***
Choosing Restore Source from the main menu allows you to tell
FASTBACK PLUS where to find the data for your backup. The
submenu displays choices based on the information you
provided during installation. Use the same name for the
Source that you used for the Destination in the backup you
wish to restore.
*H_re_dp
*** DIRECTORY ***
Choose whether to restore files to their original directories
or to the default directory.
The submenu offers two choices:
Create Only If Needed:
Restores files to their original directory and
subdirectory paths. Use this choice if you have, for
example, re-formatted the hard disk, and you want to
restore it to have the same organization it had in the
backup set. FASTBACK PLUS will create directories and
subdirectories as needed.
Use Default Directory
Restores files to the current directory on the selected
hard disk. ("Current directory" and "default directory"
will usually mean the directory from which you started
FASTBACK PLUS. If you started FASTBACK PLUS from the
Fastback directory, the program will restore files to
the Fastback directory, the default directory.)
Default: Create Only If Needed.

*** START RESTORE ***
After choosing settings from the Restore main menu, choose
Start Restore to call the sub-menu; it offers five options:
Estimate Start Restore Get History Compare Files Quit
Estimate:
Scans data in the selected history files and compares it
to that on the hard disk to
--estimate how long the Restore will require
--tell you which backup sets to have ready
--provide other facts about the restore.
Using the Restore Estimate triggers a "smart" restore
that prompts you to insert only the disks needed.
Start Restore:
Begins the restore process an
